Year 4 - Outside Classroom Day
Today, Year 4 had a fantastic time participating in Outdoor Classroom Day 2019. This is a global campaign which celebrates outdoor learning and play and we were excited to be part of the 3.5 million children worldwide who joined in. At Christ Church, we embrace and understand that outdoor learning improves children's health, engages them with learning and leads them to a greater connection with nature. We are fortunate to have plenty of incredible outdoor learning spaces and couldn't wait to take our lessons outside for a whole day!
This week, our maths focus is measurement so it was out with our trusty metre sticks and wheels to estimate and then measure areas around the school. The water flowed as we tackled capacity using a range of measuring equipment. Then it was time to get weighing what mother nature had gifted our school grounds.
After break we moved onto English were it was all about the drama. Using play scripts we had to decide on a cast and perform a short play for our classmates. With plenty of space to allow our theatrical talents flow and it was great fun!
After lunch it was reading workshop were we took our favourite books outside, found our perfect spot and enjoyed the calm and tranquillity of reading in the great outdoors.
Then it was onto Science and we set off on a mini beast hunt searching for the perfect creepy crawlies habitat. It was amazing to see just how much wildlife we share our outdoor space with. We made sure all our wriggly friends were returned to their homes.
To finish the day we enjoyed a game of rounders and it was clear to see just how skilful we've become in our P.E. lessons with some incredible batting and unbelievable catches!
A great time was had by all!
